I recently got a new windows 8 phone, thinking it would link in nicely with my windows 8 laptop. When plugged in via USB the device is not recognised. Ive followed the advice on other posts, troubleshooting the problem ad even manually downloading the device driver software, but when I update the driver through the device manager, I receive the error message stating 'MTP USB device error.windows found driver software but encountered an error whilst attempting to install it.the system cannot find the file specified' Any ideas on how to overcome this and get it working please? I recently got a new windows 8 phone. MTP USB device failed to install on windows 8 for windows 8 phone. Driver Name: null. Reboot your phone friend and it should work InshaAllah. MashaAllah, Worked for me. My HTC WP8 was always able to connect via USB to my Windows 7 laptop. After a massive Windows security update, it would no longer connect, would try to install device drivers and fail. Surprisingly, rebooting the phone was the solution. After rebooting the phone, I plugged it in to the same USB port. It successfully re-installed the device driver and now all is fine. I don't get why rebooting the phone would make this work, but I'm glad you suggested it.
